  2. Simple Sentences<br />A simple sentence is one independent clause and one complete thought. It has one subject and one verb.<br />Examples:<br />The bell rang.<br />You and I need piano lessons.<br />The skier turned and jumped.<br />
  3. Compound Sentences<br />A compound sentence is a sentence with 2 or more independent clauses joined by a comma and a coordinating conjunction. It will have 2 simple subjects and 2 simple predicates.<br />Examples: <br />I planned to go to the hockey game, but I couldn’t get tickets.<br />Dorothy likes white water rafting, but she also enjoys kayaking.<br />Bridget ran the first part of the race, and Tara biked the second part.<br />

  5. Complex Sentences<br />A complex sentence is one independent clause one dependent clause. Each clause has its own subject and verb, but the dependent clause can’t stand alone. The two clauses are joined by a subordinating conjunction. Punctuate by putting a comma after the dependent clause if it is at the beginning of the sentence. If the clause is at the end of the sentence , do not put a comma.<br />Examples:<br />Because Kayla has so much climbing experience , we asked her to lead our group.<br />He stands at the bottom of the cliff while the climber moves up the rock.<br />
